Digital skills are an important part of many jobs. If you have you ever wanted the chance to study how a computer works, how to improve its performance and how to use computers to solve real problems the a GCSE in Computer Science is for you. Studying for this qualification will allow you to build confidence in computational thinking and programming skills and understand computing concepts.

Entry requirements
A GCSE grade 4 or above or level 2 functional skill in maths will be required to make the most of this course content.

Who is this course aimed at?
Anyone with an interest in computing who is confident with their maths skills.

Course Intent
This GCSE is taught using a range of realistic contexts and is delivered in a practical setting. The subjects covered in this GCSE are: Fundamentals of algorithms Programming Fundamentals of data representation Computer systems Fundamentals of computer networks Cyber security Relational databases and structured query language (SQL) Ethical, legal and environmental impacts of digital technology on wider society, including issues of privacy

How will I learn?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
There is a considerable amount of work for you to do in your own time for this qualification, reading and completing activities. Please allow a minimum of 2 hours per week for homework and study time.

How will I know I'm making progress?
There will be mock exams at the end of each unit and regular feedback will be provided for all practical activities

What will I need to take to course?
Please bring a pen, notepad and a file for your hand-outs. Access to a computer or smart device outside of the classroom is essential for completing classroom projects.
