This GCSE Science course allows learners to study for the double award and covers course content including Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The double award results in learners being awarded the equivalent of 2 GCSEs once the assessments are successfully completed.

Entry requirements
GCSE grade or Level 1 functional skills in maths is required. If you don't have evidence of prior attainment for maths then an initial assessment can be completed to demonstrate maths skills.

Who is this course aimed at?
Learners who wish to achieve a double award in science and can support with entry to a huge range of further learning, apprenticeships and employment including STEM roles, care, health, teaching, engineering, manufacturing and many more.

Course Intent
The awarding body for this qualification is AQA. This course will follow the Combined Science- Trilogy Specification. The Course will lead to you achieving the equivalent of 2 GCSE’s at grades 9-9 to 1-1. The course will be practical based with theory being linked to practical activities. You will complete 6 exams in May and June on dates set by the exam board, these dates are set externally and are not negotiable. You will study a variety of topics from Biology, Chemistry and Physics as follows: Biology. Cell biology Organisation Infection and response Bioenergetics Homeostasis and response Inheritance, variation and evolution Ecology Chemistry Atomic structure and the periodic table Bonding, structure and properties of matter Quantitative chemistry Chemical change Energy change Rate and extent of chemical change Organic chemistry Chemical analysis Using resources Physics Energy Electricity Particle model of matter Atomic structure Forces Waves Magnetism and electromagnetism

How will I learn?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
There is a considerable amount of work for you to do in your own time for this qualification, reading and completing activities. Please allow a minimum of 2 hours per week for homework and study time.

How will I know I'm making progress?
There will be mock exams at the end of each unit and regular feedback will be provided for all practical activities

What will I need to take to course?
Please bring a pen, notepad and a file for your hand-outs. Access to a computer or smart device outside of the classroom is essential for completing classroom projects.
